Decreasing immigration to Australia

“Immigrants to Australia are often dissatisfied with what they get: some think Australia’s social services inadequate; others find the price of being a house-owning rather than a house-renting society too high in interest charges; others find the provision for child minding centres and kindergartens too paltry; others miss the paternalism of employers who provide factory houses and consider it dishonourable to give a man the sack; others was more centres of public entertainment. What Australia offers in material prosperity no longer seems as remarkable as it once did”

– Donald Horne in “The Next Australia” 1970
