(un) Representative Democracy

[In the December 10, 1977  Australian Federal election] “The Labor Party received 3,141,047 votes but only picked up 38 seats. The coalition of Liberal and Country parties got 3,811,348 votes and 86 seats  – an advantage of 48 seats with a majority of 670,301. The Australian Democrats party polled 743,365 votes, and although this was more than the Country Party, whose national vote dropped by 10%, the Democrats didn’t win a seat.
