Cause of unemployment

“We reject suggestions that unemployment has been caused by the following factors:

* Lack of motivation of many of those unemployed (including changed attitudes to the work ethic and dull and dirty jobs),

* Changes in wage rates;

* Changes in social security benefits;

* structural imbalances in the demand and supply of labour:

* or reductions in industry protection, such as from the tariff cuts of 1973″
